Penn Earns Top Spot in 2022 GEC Preseason Poll



WEST CHESTER, PENNSYLVANIA (Dec. 17, 2021) — The Gymnastics East Conference announced the results of the 2022 preseason poll on Friday, Dec. 17, 2021 in anticipation of the 2022 season beginning January 7th. Penn leads the preseason poll with 57 points and four first place votes. Not far behind is Yale with 45 points and one first place vote, and Brown with 41 points and two first place votes. Cornell also received one first place vote.


The preseason poll is based on ranking projections given by the head coaches of the eight GEC schools.

The 2022 preseason rankings are as follows:


1. Penn (57 points, 4 first place votes)

2. Yale (45 points, 1 first place vote)

3. Brown (41 points, 2 first place votes)

4. Cornell (37 points, 1 first place vote)

5. West Chester (35 points)

6. William & Mary (31 points)

7. Southern Connecticut (27 points)

8. Bridgeport (15 points)


Penn opens their season on Friday, January 7th at 7 p.m. at Temple. Yale, Brown and WCU will open their seasons together on Sunday, January 9th at 1 p.m. at Yale. William and Mary will first be in action Friday, January 14th at Towson, and Cornell opens at GW with Penn and William & Mary on January 16th. The GEC is looking forward to a competitive inaugural season.
