Penn Earns Top Spot in 2023 GEC Preseason Poll


WEST CHESTER, PENNSYLVANIA (Dec. 19, 2022) — The Gymnastics East Conference announced the results of the 2023 preseason poll on Monday, Dec. 19, 2022 in anticipation of the 2023 season beginning January 7th. Penn leads the preseason poll again this year with 60 points and five first place votes. Not far behind is Brown with 52 points and one first place vote, and Yale with 48 points and one first place vote. Cornell also received one first place vote. These results are very similar to the inaugural season final results in 2022 where Penn took 1st, Brown 2nd, West Chester 3rd and Yale 4th.


The preseason poll is based on ranking projections given by the head coaches of the eight GEC schools.


The 2023 preseason rankings are as follows:


1. Penn (60 points, 5 first place votes)

2. Brown (52 points, 1 first place vote)

3. Yale (48 points, 1 first place vote)

4. West Chester (42 points)

5. Cornell (35 points, 1 first place vote)

6. Southern Connecticut (19 points)

7. William & Mary (18 points)

8. Bridgeport (14 points)


Penn opens their season on Friday, January 6th at 7:00 p.m. at the Keystone Classic hosted by Pitt. We will see Brown compete first on Sunday, January 15th at Yale’s home opener. Yale’s first 2023 appearance will be Sunday, January 8th at LIU at 2:00 p.m. WCU, SCSU and Bridgeport will open their seasons together on Sunday, January 8th at 1:00 p.m. at West Chester. Cornell and William & Mary will first be in action on Sunday January 15th at GW at 1:00 p.m. The GEC looks forward to a successful second season.
