GEC Week 9 Awards


NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK - OLIVIA IMBARLINA (Pittsburgh, PA), a Freshman from Bridgeport, was voted GEC Newcomer of the Week on March 8th, 2022. Imbarlina has been a strong contributor for for the Purple Knights. She is 7 for 7 this season on balance beam and ︎vault. Olivia has worked through multiple injuries to consistently︎y contribute to the line-ups. She tied her career high on ︎vault at Brown with a 9.7. This past week, she showed her consistency, posting two 9.65s and a 9.7 on vault, and 9.675 on beam in all three meets.

PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK - MEI LI COSTA (Lawrenceville, NJ), a Senior from Brown was voted GEC Performance of the Week on March 8TH, 2022, for the second week in a row. Costa broke the school record again this week, earning the highest score on any event in school history. She a︎︎︎ earned a perfect 10 on bars from one judge, and ultimately scored a near perfect 9.975. Mei ︎led the Bears to a season high 194.6, the second highest score in school history. Just two days earlier, she earned a 2nd place finish on bars and 4th on vault in a meet with highly-ranked teams.

︎︎︎︎GYMNAST OF THE WEEK - SYDNEY BEERS (Bellmore, NY), a Freshman from Cornell, was voted GEC Gymnast of the Week on March 8th, 2022. For the 8th week in a row, Beers has gone four for four events, scored over a 38.0, and been one of the Bear’s top scorers on every event every week. She has been solid as a rock week in and week out. This week she posted three scores of 9.7 or better, earning a 38.725 and placing 3rd in the all-around.
