Gymnast of the Week: Abby Kenney (Bridgeport)
Abby Kenney earns GEC Gymnast of the Week honors for the second time this season after another outstanding performance. Kenney hit 4-for-4 in her routines on Friday, leading her team as the top scorer on each event and showcasing her remarkable consistency and leadership. She claimed first place on vault with a season-high 9.775, bars with a 9.725, and floor with a 9.8, while also securing second place on beam with a 9.775. Her all-around excellence resulted in another season-best, scoring 39.075 to take the top spot. Kenney’s ability to deliver under pressure continues to be a driving force for her team, solidifying her reputation as a standout competitor in the conference.
Specialist of the Week: Emily Ford (Brown)
Emily Ford has been named the Gymnastics East Conference Specialist of the Week after delivering a sensational performance on bars, helping Brown achieve a season-high team score of 193.375 against Yale, Towson, and UNH. Ford set a new career-high on bars with a 9.825, finishing in fifth place, and matched her season-high on beam with a runner-up score of 9.800. Her impressive routines were instrumental in Brown securing its second-highest total of the season on both events, highlighting her consistency and skill as a specialist.
Newcomer of the Week: Manama Fofana (Penn)
Manama Fofana has been named GEC Newcomer of the Week after another impressive performance. She secured her first event victory, winning the floor exercise with a career-high score of 9.850. This score not only placed her first, but was also tied for the best event score among all GEC freshmen this week. In addition, Fofana tied for the second-best vault score of the week with a solid 9.775, showcasing her versatility and strong start to her GEC career. This marks her second time earning this award this season.
