Gymnast of the Week: Manama Fofana (Penn)
Sophomore Manama Fofana (Atlanta, Ga.) earned her second consecutive GEC Gymnast of the Week honor after another spectacular performance for the Quakers on Friday night. The highlight of her meet came on beam, where she posted a career-high, event winning 9.925, a score that ranks second all-time at Penn and stands as the highest individual beam score at a home meet in program history. Fofana’s beam score helped propel Penn to a 49.375 team total, the second-highest beam score in program history, and led the way as the Quakers posted a 196.000 team score. She also added strong performances on vault (9.825) and floor (9.825) to round out her standout night.
Specialist of the Week: Cami Whitaker (Cornell)
Senior Cami Whitaker (Addison, Ill.) continued her steady impact for Cornell with strong performances on vault and floor this week. Whitaker debuted a new vault this season, a Yurchenko tuck 1½, and has shown improvement each week, delivering a stick on Friday to place fourth with a 9.800. On floor exercise, she remained a reliable presence in the lineup, posting Cornell’s second-highest score of the meet with a 9.750. Whitaker’s consistency continues to be a key factor for the Big Red week in and week out.
Newcomer of the Week: Annie Bilbe (Yale)
First-year Annie Bilbe (Covington, La.) earned her second GEC Newcomer of the Week honor of the season after a strong performance for Yale against Southern Connecticut. Bilbe claimed first place on vault with a 9.825, debuting her layout Kazamatsu in the anchor position. She also anchored the floor lineup for the Bulldogs and scored a 9.800, tying for third place. Bilbe has opened her Yale career with confidence and consistency, quickly establishing herself as a reliable presence in the Bulldogs’ lineups.
