GEC Week 3 Awards

NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK - ELLA TASHJIAN (Manchester, VT), a First Year from Yale University was voted GEC Newcomer of the week on January 23, 2024. Ella once again stepped up in a big way for the Bulldogs this weekend at LIU. She had a season high of 9.9 on floor, taking first place on that event. She also delivered a strong performance on vault and beam scoring a 9.725 and 9.4 respectively. The Yale coaching staff has been impressed with Ella and her consistency as a first year helping to make a huge impact in her first two meets as a Bulldog.


SPECIALIST OF THE WEEK - JULIA BEDELL (Haverhill, MA), a Junior from Brown University was voted GEC Specialist of the Week on January 23, 2024. Julia Bedell led Brown in both events of their dual meet at No. 21 Oregon State. Bedell tied her career-high on vault of a 9.85, which is tied for the fourth highest score in program history, tying for 4th place overall at Oregon State. Her vault score is tied for seventh in program history. Bedell also tied for 2nd place with an impressive 9.9 on the floor, opening with an amazing full-in.


GYMNAST OF THE WEEK - SYDNEY BEERS (Bellmore, NY), a junior from Cornell University was voted GEC Gymnast of the Week on January 23, 2024. Beers beat her own All-Around record in the Big Red’s first home meet of the 2024 season, securing a 1st place finish with a 39.15. She holds the 2nd highest All-Around score of all time at Cornell. Sydney captured the uneven bar title for the first time since competing for Cornell, scoring a 9.7. She also took 1st place on vault with a 9.8, and 1st place on floor with a 9.9. Coach Melanie Halls says the Beers “continues to be a rock solid competitor for the Big Red and definitely leads by example.”
