GYMNAST OF THE WEEK - SKYELAR KERICO (Tom’s River, NJ), a first year student from Penn, was voted GEC Gymnast of the Week on January 17th, 2023. Skyelar Kerico, hit 4/4 routines for the second weekend in a row, tallying a 39.075 and placing 2nd amongst a strong competition at Penn State with LIU and SCSU. Her stuck 9.85 vault this past weekend tied for 1st and helped the team tie the 3rd highest vault score in program history. She is also currently ranked #1 in the GEC on beam as well as the all-around. Kerico has already proven to be a fierce and reliable competitor for the Quakers, helping contribute to the 6th highest overall team score in program history this past weekend.
SPECIALIST OF THE WEEK - JULIA BEDELL (Haverhill, Mass.), a sophomore from Brown was voted Specialist of the Week on January 17th, 2023. Bedell returns to the Brown Bears with a strong start to the season. Julia won both of the events that she competed in, setting a new career-high on vault at 9.850 in Brown's dual meet at Yale and powered the Bears to their highest season-opening score since 2017. Her efforts on the floor led to a first place 9.7.
NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK - ASTA FARRELL (New York, NY), a junior from Brown was voted GEC Newcomer of the Week on January 17th, 2023. Competing in her first-ever collegiate event, Farrell had a strong performance (9.850) and took first place on bars in Brown's dual meet at Yale. Her win helped power Brown to its highest season-opening score since 2017. Her freshman season was canceled due to the pandemic and she missed all of last year due to a preseason knee injury.
