NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK - ISABEL SONG (Moorestown, NJ), a Freshman from Penn, was voted GEC Newcomer of the Week on January 11th, 2022. In the Quakers opening meet against Temple and Penn State, Song earned a 9.775 on vault which was good for 2nd place, a 9.6 on bars, and a 9.5 on floor. In Isabel’s first collegiate meet, she competed on three events in either the lead off or anchor role because of her consistency. She hit all of her routines and was the highest scoring routine for Penn on both vault and bars.
PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK - JESSICA MEAKIM (Downingtown, PA), a Senior from West Chester, was voted GEC Performance of the Week on January 11th, 2022. In the Golden Rams season opener at Yale, Meakim went 4 for 4 and performed almost to perfection. Jessica came back for a 5th year after her junior season was cut short, and started the 2022 season with a bang. Meakim scored a 9.75 on vault, 9.725 on bars, 9.625 on beam, a 9.8 on floor for 2nd place, and a 38.9 in the all-around, also good for 2nd place.
GYMNAST OF THE WEEK - LINDSAY CHIA (Windsor, Ontario, Canada), a Senior from Yale, was voted GEC Gymnast of the Week on January 11th, 2022. In the Bulldogs home opener against Brown, LIU, and West Chester, Chia had a strong all around performance scoring a 39.075, with exceptional routines on beam and floor, scoring a 9.875 and 9.775 respectively. She also had the highest vault difficulty in the Yale lineup scoring a 9.75. She was a reliable, clean, and technical performer which allowed her to win beam and all around. This was Lindsay’s first time competing on Vault floor and all around at Yale.
